Garry Hill is out there starting the Transalp, a shed load of climbing too, but over 8 days. Ryan is back in the UK and over with Adi at the Marathon champs for the weekend at Margam. Between the 16th and 23rd of July 2005 we will be competing as Gary Hill & Guy Exley (veteran men's team) Brian Tear & Martine Verweij (mixed team) Adam Toft & Gary Tee (men's team) in what is widely regarded as the toughest mountain bike race in the world.To give you an idea of the magnitude of this undertaking, it is a stage mountain bike race over 8 days incorporating over 22,600 meters (74,000 feet) of climbing (over two and a half times the height of Everest) in comparison with the Tour de France takes in 28,000 meters of climbing in 3 weeks. The distance covered is to be round 740 km (460 miles). The race starts in the Bavarian Alps, Germany, continues through the Stubai Alps, Austria, the Italian Dolomites before finishing directly on the beach of Jesolo´s coast at the Adriatic Sea.
TransRockies - Also billed as the toughest mountain bike race on earth with the most technical and challenging riding - for charity. http://www.transrockies.com/ Between the 7th and 13th of August 2005 we will be competing as Gary Hill & Carrie Carruther (veteran mixed team) Pete Brown & Frank Newcombe (veteren men's) in what, again, is widely regarded as the toughest mountain bike race in the world.To give you an idea of the magnitude of the TransRockies, it is another stage mountain bike race over 7 days incorporating over 600 kilometres (373 miles) and 12,000 attitude metres (39,370 feet) of climbing. The race is held in the Canadian Rockies and starts in Fernie, British Columbia and continues through the Rockies crossing the continental divide a number of times before finishing in Canmore, Alberta.The aim is to finish the race and raise money for the Multiple Sclerosis Society.
