National Chimps

Oh was I gutted I never had an entry........NOT.
I've never seen it rain for so hard for so long at a race. I got covered in crashed riders mud just watching.
BigRing slithered and ground his bike to a pulp to claim he's
14th in the Country while Adi and Paul from treads gamely stuck it out for nearly 3 hrs in the Senior class. Hey BigRing you would have been 16th in with the Elite boys! does that make it feel any better.

Pic stolen from BCF snapper Joolz who we spent the day with, sure she won't mind.

Meanwhile...........Vic Barnett won the MTB Race (60yrs to 65yrs) at the World Masters Games in Edmonton, Canada last Friday (22/7). His finishing time was faster than (55yrs to 59yrs) beating a close friend and adversary Christian Jupillat (France).
Vic has been a World Champion but never a Games Champion. This completes his Gold medal collection.

The following day (Sat) he rode the 18-mile TT and claimed a creditable 5th place. Still awaiting results from the Road Race yesterday.

NPS and Maraton

(click here for full page view)BigRing shaved the top 10 in Masters again, and angered the mechanical luck gods too, (or is it just hamfistedness?) 12th position but the lap times tell it all.
lap1. - 28:54. Lap2.- 33:41. Lap3.- 30:13. Lap4.- 30:33.

As the man tells it, "the pedal came off on the final downhill of lap2. I jammed it back on but in my haste crossthreaded it so wobbled back to the start area with it all wrong at an angle. Cursed myself for not carrying a multitool for the first race this year (why oh why did i try and go superlight) and managed to beg a tool to jam the pedal back in straight."

I reckon you can rightly claim nearly 4 minutes for that delay mate, taking that into account a 7th place was possible....bugger.8th Overall with your luck so far is superb though. Sherwood next then.

Ryan and Adi were the men in black in the Marathon champs - I think they were hiding in the shade a lot. Picutes from the BCF here ADI and RYAN

Gary Hills progress at Transalp

http://www.transalpchallenge.com/transalp/profile05/03_Neukirchen-Lienz.pdf

Carrie tells us stage 3 was a killer.

Hi All
Here is an update on Gary's progress -
Gary and Guy and the other 4 in the Double Dutch gang have successfully completed day 3 and no problems so far. It does sound really hard - perhaps even harder than last year.
Yesterday was probably the hardest day of the race and involved over 4km of pushing. Gary compared it to taking your bike on an alpine hut walk. Gary and Guy are in the TransAlp camp and are managing to get showers, massages and some sleep with the help of ear plugs.
I looked up the results on the web site and here are the results for day 3:
Gary/Guy - are 32nd (out of 134) - took 6hrs 54mins
Brian/Martine - are 14th (out of 49) - 7hrs 40mins
Gary/Adam - are 236th (out of 271) - 9hrs 15mins

Mad weekend for all but me

(click here for full page view) TDF bonkers boys are doing this (
Bigger view) on Sunday. Should finally decide the outcome. Garry Hill is out there starting the Transalp, a shed load of climbing too, but over 8 days. Ryan is back in the UK and over with Adi at the Marathon champs for the weekend at Margam. Me I'll be chilling out because at last we have a hot spinning power station Yahoo!

Garry Hill from CATS a fellow FNSS racer needs some support from us lazy ferkers. Please read all this and respond as you see fit.

TransAlp & TransRockies - Toughest mountain bike races in the world
In 2004, after 8 days, 665 kilometres, 22,640 metres of ascent and over 51 hours in the saddle Pete & I completed the 2004 TransAlp challenge (See 2004- transalp)
In the process we raised over £800 for the Multiple Sclerosis Society. Not content with the challenge of 2004 a team of friends are undertaking either the TransAlp or the TransRockies challenge - in my case, both!

TransAlp Site for full details

Between the 16th and 23rd of July 2005 we will be competing as Gary Hill & Guy Exley (veteran men's team) Brian Tear & Martine Verweij (mixed team) Adam Toft & Gary Tee (men's team) in what is widely regarded as the toughest mountain bike race in the world. To give you an idea of the magnitude of this undertaking, it is a stage mountain bike race over 8 days incorporating over 22,600 meters (74,000 feet) of climbing (over two and a half times the height of Everest) in comparison with the Tour de France takes in 28,000 meters of climbing in 3 weeks. The distance covered is to be round 740 km (460 miles). The race starts in the Bavarian Alps, Germany, continues through the Stubai Alps, Austria, the Italian Dolomites before finishing directly on the beach of Jesolo´s coast at the Adriatic Sea.

TransRockies - Also billed as the toughest mountain bike race on earth with the most technical and challenging riding - for charity. http://www.transrockies.com/ Between the 7th and 13th of August 2005 we will be competing as Gary Hill & Carrie Carruther (veteran mixed team) Pete Brown & Frank Newcombe (veteren men's) in what, again, is widely regarded as the toughest mountain bike race in the world. To give you an idea of the magnitude of the TransRockies, it is another stage mountain bike race over 7 days incorporating over 600 kilometres (373 miles) and 12,000 attitude metres (39,370 feet) of climbing. The race is held in the Canadian Rockies and starts in Fernie, British Columbia and continues through the Rockies crossing the continental divide a number of times before finishing in Canmore, Alberta. The aim is to finish the race and raise money for the Multiple Sclerosis Society. Please note ALL the money raised will go to the MSS.So, if you would like to support me to help raise hundreds for the MS Society there are three ways of sponsoring me: 1. You can donate online by credit or debit card at the following address: http://www.justgiving.com/trta

All donations are secure and sent electronically to Multiple Sclerosis Society. If you are a UK taxpayer, Justgiving will add an automatic 28% bonus to your donation at no cost to you as part of the 'Gift Aid' scheme.2. Write a cheque made payable to the 'MS Society' and send it to Gary Hill, Avenue Campus (I will then enter all contributions onto a sponsorship form and forward to the MS Society). If you enter your name and address on the reverse of the cheque, the MS Society will be able to claim an additional 28% through the 'Gift Aid' scheme. The MS Society will not contact you unless you request them to.3. Write a cheque made payable to the 'MS Society' and send it to Gary Hill, Avenue Campus (I will then enter all contributions onto a sponsorship form and forward to the MS Society). Without you name and address on the reverse.Thank you for taking the time to read this (and hopefully for your pledge).Gary

ps; A report on our training and the TransAlp and TransRockies Challenges appear on the following sites:transrockies2005/ and transalp2005/ In the meantime should you require any further information about the vital work the Society undertakes, please do not hesitate to contact the MS Society on: Tel 0808 800 8000, Email webinfoenquiries@mssociety.org.uk or Web www.mssociety.org.uk

Bikes are great

Check out the FNSS link, latest points are in and our man Stu is top senior for a week ..Wahoo.
(click here for full page view)
Found some energy to get up early and have a nice long off road ride in this morning, great therapy. Velvet revolver and a new set of monster wide bars brought out the hooligan in me and it rocked.

check out this
chicksands video
